💎 Silver

Net silver weight (999 purity).

💵 Cash & debts

Only debts fall due are deducted, not living expenses.

🌙 Hawl (lunar year)

Nisab is a weight: 85g pure gold or 595g silver. Cash is compared to the lowest nisab value.

What is a gold zakat calculator?

A gold zakat calculator takes the arithmetic out of a question most people get wrong. If you are looking for a zakat calculator on gold, the quality of the result depends entirely on the rules it applies, and most get the rules wrong. The traditional shortcut is to multiply the gross weight by the price per gram, but that makes two mistakes: it uses the gross weight instead of the pure weight, and it uses the jeweller's price instead of the metal's value. The result is sometimes more zakat than required and sometimes less.

This calculator works through it transparently. It takes your gold weight, subtracts the weight of any stones to get the net weight, then multiplies by the karat purity to find how many grams of pure gold you actually hold. It is that pure weight, not the gross weight, that is compared against the nisab.

Next it adds the value of silver and cash, subtracts debts that fall due, and gives you the net zakatable wealth. If that reaches nisab, zakat is 2.5% of it. Every step is shown to you rather than hidden behind a single number.

Zakat calculator for the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and India

This gold zakat calculator works in eleven currencies: the UAE dirham, Saudi riyal, Qatari riyal, Kuwaiti, Bahraini and Omani dinars, the US dollar, Indian and Pakistani rupees, the British pound and the euro. The live spot gold price is converted automatically, so your nisab and your zakat appear in local money.

That covers three groups: residents of the Gulf and other Arab countries, users in India and Pakistan who buy and hold gold by the tola, and the Arab diaspora in Europe and the UK. Instead of a separate page per country, one calculator serves everyone.

Nisab today

The nisab is fixed in Shariah: 85 grams of pure gold, or87.48 g on the precise estimate, or 595 g of silver. Its cash value moves every day with the gold price. The gold nisab equals7.29 tola, since one tola is11.6638038 grams.

How the gold zakat calculator works

Four steps, no guesswork:

1) Net weight = gross weight − stone weight
2) Pure gold = net weight × (karat ÷ 24)
3) Net wealth = (gold + silver + cash) − debts due
4) Zakat = net wealth × 0.025 — if nisab is reached and a hawl has passed

Conversions: 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 g · 1 tola = 11.6638038 g · 1 mithqal = 4.3752 g

Nisab by karat

This is the table people most often get wrong. The nisab is one figure, 85 grams of pure gold, but retail gold is alloyed, so each karat needs a different gross weight to reach it.

KaratPurityWeight neededIn tola
24K100%85.00 g7.29
22K91.67%92.73 g7.95
21K87.5%97.14 g8.33
18K75%113.33 g9.72
14K58.33%145.71 g12.49

22K is the best-selling karat in the Gulf and 18K is common in intricate pieces. Many published tables list only 18, 21 and 24, leaving users without a number for what they actually own.

Why your result differs from other calculators

Most calculators value your gold at the jeweller's price per gram, which includes making charges, VAT and the shop's margin. Those amounts sit above the value of the metal itself and do not belong in the zakatable base.

This gold zakat calculator uses the live international spot price and shows you when it was last updated and where it came from. The difference is not theoretical: if the spot price is 490 AED per gram and the shop charges 505 AED, calculating 100 grams at the shop price costs you roughly 375 AED of unnecessary zakat.

Second, nisab is a weight, not a cash value. Someone holding 50 g of gold may have a value far above the silver nisab and still owe nothing, because 50 g is not 85 g of pure gold. This calculator applies the rule as written and tells you which part of your wealth reached the threshold.

Three mistakes that cost you extra zakat

1. Calculating on the gross weight. 100 g of 21K is really worth 43,750 AED (87.5 g pure × 500), but calculating on 100 g charges zakat on 50,000 AED — 14% more for no reason.

2. Using the shop price. It includes making charges, VAT and margin, and zakat is due on the value of the metal, not on what you happened to pay.

3. Deducting living costs. Only debts that fall due are deducted. Rent and electricity are not debts, and deducting them lowers your zakat without cause.

Conditions for gold zakat

  • Reaching nisab: own 85 g of pure gold or more.
  • Passing a hawl: one full lunar year in your ownership.
  • Full ownership: the wealth is yours and not committed elsewhere.
  • Tradable asset: savings, trade goods, or investment bullion.

Gold zakat calculator questions

What is a gold zakat calculator?

A gold zakat calculator is a tool that tells you how much zakat your gold owes in seconds. You enter the weight in grams or tola and pick the karat, and the calculator converts to pure gold, adds cash, subtracts debts due, and compares the result against the nisab. You get the answer in AED, QAR, SAR, INR or another currency, and you see whether nisab was reached and how many grams of gold you could give instead of cash.

How many grams of gold must I own for zakat to be due?

The gold nisab is 85 grams of pure gold (24K) according to the majority of scholars, or 87.48 grams using the precise estimate. That makes the 22K nisab 92.73 g, 21K 97.14 g, 18K 113.33 g and 14K 145.71 g. Below that threshold no zakat is due, whatever the market value.

Does this gold zakat calculator work for Qatar (QAR)?

Yes. The calculator supports the Qatari riyal alongside the UAE dirham, Saudi riyal, Kuwaiti, Bahraini and Omani dinars, the US dollar, Indian and Pakistani rupees, the pound and the euro. The live spot gold price is converted into your currency automatically, so you see your nisab and your zakat in local money with no manual conversion.

Can I calculate zakat in tola (India, Pakistan, Gulf)?

Yes. Select "tola" as the unit and enter the weight the way you buy gold in India, Pakistan and much of the Gulf. One tola is 11.6638 grams, and the 85g gold nisab equals 7.29 tola. This matters because gold trading in these markets runs on tola rather than grams.

How do I calculate zakat on 22K gold?

22K is 22 out of 24, or 91.67% pure. Multiply the weight by 22 ÷ 24 to get the pure weight, then compare it with the 92.73 g nisab. For example, 100 g of 22K is 91.67 g pure, just under the nisab, so no zakat. But 110 g of 22K is 100.83 g pure, which clears the nisab and zakat is due.

Is zakat due on worn gold jewellery?

Scholars differ here. Personal adornment gold is exempt according to the majority, and paying it is the more cautious position if nisab is reached. Investment bullion, bars and coins are subject to zakat by consensus. This calculator does not settle the disagreement; it shows you the figures so you can decide or ask a scholar.

Are debts deducted from zakat?

Yes, debts that fall due for payment are deducted. Long-term debts such as a mortgage are not deducted in full, only the instalments due within the coming year. What is deducted is an obligation you owe, not monthly living costs like rent and electricity.

Do gemstones count toward gold zakat?

No. Zakat on gold is calculated on the pure gold weight only. If a piece weighs 10 grams and holds a 2 gram stone, the net gold is 8 grams. Subtract the stones first, then apply the karat, or you will pay more zakat than required.

Is this a fatwa?

No. This is a calculation tool for guidance, not a ruling. For your personal fiqh situation, especially worn jewellery or making up missed years, always consult a qualified scholar or a recognised Islamic body.
